Trevor Burke, DDS, MSc, MDS, MGDS, FDS RCS (Edin), FDS RCS (Eng.), FFGDP(UK), FADM
Trevor Burke graduated from Queens University in Belfast. He worked in general dental practice in Manchester from 1974 to 1996, whilst also working in the Unit of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester. He has been Professor of Primary Dental Care at the University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry since 2000. He has authored or co-authored 290 papers in peer-reviewed journals and been awarded over 80 research grants. His main research interests include properties and applications of tooth-colored restorative materials, clinical evaluation of the performance of materials in general dental practice, the design of an index of oral health for clinical audit and quality control, and ill-health retirement among dentists. In 1993 he established the PREP (Product Research and Evaluation by Practitioners) Panel, a group of dentists who carry out research in their practices. Trevor co-ordinates this group, which has now completed over 60 evaluations of materials and techniques, with the group having grown presently to 30 members. He is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, was Chair of the Board of Board of Dental Protection until November 2014 and is the Editorial Director of Dental Update. Trevor’s time at the University is mainly spent being Director of the Masters course in Advanced General Dental Practice, this having been established 14 years ago as a campus-based course , and which is now a Distance course for dentists anywhere in the world.
Dr Nick van Reede van Outshoorn
Dr. Nic van Reede van Oudtshoorn completed a B.Sc Degree in 1972 and his B.Ch.D degree in 1977 (Dux Student) at the University of Pretoria. After completion of military service, he founded his private practice in 1980 in Pietersburg (now Polokwane). In 1991 he acquired the CEREC 1 CAD/CAM system and attended his first CEREC course at the University of Zurich. Nic became an ISCD certified CEREC trainer in 2002 and was elected as president of the SAACD (South African Academy of Computerized Dentistry) in 2007, he was also elected to the Executive Committee of the ISCD (International Society of Computerized Dentistry) that same year.
Since 2007, Nic has hosted various international CEREC meetings on behalf of the SAACD and has lectured nationally and internationally on the CEREC and SiroLaser systems. Nic lectured at the ISCD's 9th Train-the-trainers course in Cancun, Mexico in 2008 and at the 11th Train-the-trainers course in Vancouver, Canada in 2011, he was also the keynote lecturer at the World CAD/CAM Conference in Dubai, in 2008 and in 2010.
Nic opened a high-tech dental practice in Polokwane in 2008 - The Dental Studio, equipped with lecturing and training facilities. Nic is an Honorary Lecturer at The University of the Witwatersrand, Department of Prosthodontics. He also serves as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Limpopo Medi-Clinic.
Dr Joggie Briedenhann
Joggie Briedenhann is a born and bred Namibian. He qualified as dentist from University of Pretoria in 1983 and as specialist orthodontist from Witwatersrand University in 1988. Joggie was in private orthodontic practice from 1990 until present.
Currently he is actively involved in the affairs of the Dental Association of Namibia and served the Association in various positions. He is also c urrently the President of the Medical and Dental Council of the Health Professions Council of Namibia and also previously served in various positions at the Health Professions Council of Namibia.
Joggie is married to Eugenie, also a dentist and enjoy cattle stud breeding as a hobby.
Dr Heinrich Dippenaar
Dr Heinrich Dippenaar, finished his Degree in Dentistry (B.Ch.D) at the University of Stellenbosch in 2002. He was awarded the FX Prins Award for the Best Student in Clinical Dentistry. After his community service year, Dr Dippenaar started a private practice in his hometown, Welkom, in 2003. He served on the SADA board of the Free State Branch from 2004 to 2008 and he became President in 2008. Dr Dippenaar completed a postgraduate diploma in Endodontics at the
University of Pretoria in 2011. He received training at the Dentsply Maillefer factory in Switzerland in 2012 and is a certified trainer on Dentsply Maillefer products. Dr Dippenaar has co-authored an article with Prof P. van der Vyver on Irrigation in Endodontics which appeared in the USA Endodontic Practice magazine. He has a special interest in Endodontics and in Composites. He is currently a member of SADA AND ESSA.
Prof de Bruyn
Hugo De Bruyn is graduated as dentist in 1983 at Leuven University Belgium and obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 1987 and a Master Degree at Lund University Sweden in 1988. From 1988 until 2014 he owned a private specialist referral clinic in Brussels Belgium. In 2014 he became full professor and chairman of the department of periodontology & oral implantology at the University of Ghent Belgium. Currently he teaches for undergraduates and postgraduate students and is chairman of the educational committee responsible for the undergraduate dental education. He is furthermore course director of the 1-year postgraduate program oral health sciences, the 2-years international postgraduate oral implantology program and the 3-years postgraduate specialist program in periodontology and oral implantology. He is leading the research cluster Periodontology & Oral Implantology, Implant & Removable Prosthetics (POI-IRP). Clinical research of this cluster focuses on factors related to implant success, effect of smoking, immediate implant loading, soft and hard periodontal and peri-implant tissues, digital dentistry and implant prosthodontics. He has given more than 500 national-international lectures/courses in the field of implantology/periodontology and published more than 100 international peer reviewed papers. He is currently also visiting Professor at the Department Prosthodontics of Malmo University Sweden.
