Q: Must a dentist have professional indemnity insurance before he/she may practice in Namibia?

A: Although certainly advisable, it is currently not mandatory for a dentist to have professional indemnity insurance before he/she can practice as a dentist in Namibia.
The Health Professionals Council are currently seriously considering to make professional indemnity insurance compulsory and members of the NDA are urged to take out such insurance. Although other avenues are available, most dentist in Namibia organize their professional indemnity insurance through Dental Protection Limited.
Dental Protection Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Medical Protection Society which exists specifically to serve the needs of the dental members of MPS. MPS offers support to members with legal and ethical problems that arise from their professional practice.
